The last rites of Varsha Bhosle, the daughter of playback singer Asha Bhosle who committed suicide on Monday, were performed early on Tuesday at the Chandanwadi cremation ground at Marine Lines.

Varsha’s former husband Hemant Kenkre as well as his family and a few male members of Asha’s paternal family, the Mangeshkars, attended the funeral around midnight.

Sources said Asha was kept away from the ceremony. “Ashatai was depressed after looking at the blood stains at home and since she hates blood and gory scenes, her family decided to keep her away from the last rites of her daughter,” said a source.

Another source agreed. “Varsha’s face was distorted from the gunshot. The bullet had passed through from the left temple to the other side. That’s why the family chose to keep the leading ladies of the Mangeshkar family (Lata, Asha and Usha) away. The body was directly taken to the Chandanwadi cremation ground, instead of being stopped at her house.”
