Killer father in custody of Pune police

Mahesh Purushottam Makhi, who was arrested for murdering his 22-year-old daughter by slitting her throat with a knife, was remanded in police custody till May 18, on Saturday.

Mahesh Purushottam Makhi, who was arrested for murdering his 22-year-old daughter by slitting her throat with a knife, was remanded in police custody till May 18, on Saturday.

Makhi murdered his daughter, Megha, on Friday after he had an argument with her for misbehaving with her mother and sister. The incident took place in Shukrawar Peth on Friday. Makhi is a resident of Payas building in Shukrawar Peth. Megha was a school teacher and Makhi runs a tailoring shop near Bafna Petrol Pump in Shukrawar Peth.

After committing the crime, Makhi surrendered himself to the Mandai police with a photograph of Megha and narrated the whole incident. The police arrested the father under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Makhi’s wife Surekha and younger daughter Priyanka were not at home when the incident took place.

Labourer killed, 5 hurt in mishap

One labourer, Sanju Yadav, was killed and five labourers sustained injuries following the sudden collapse of a portion of an eleven-storey building on Saturday at Eon IT company at IT Park in Kharadi.

According to fire brigade officials the incident took place at around 9.25 pm. Local residents rescued the labourers and rushed them to a nearby hospital. Fire station officer Ramesh Gangad told DNA that the condition of the injured was stable.

The labourers were about to leave when a structure made of iron and wood collapsed. Three labourers have been admitted to Rakshak Hospital and Noble Hospital.

Body found

A mutilated and decomposed body of a man was found in an isolated area near Katraj Ghat checkpost on Saturday. The identity of the deceased, aged between 25 and 30 years, is yet to be ascertained. The body was spotted by a trekking group.

Senior police inspector Nagnath Wakude, incharge of Bharati Vidyapeeth police station, said a case of accidental death has been registered.

“We have sent the body for post-mortem. It was found near  a picnic spot. Its right leg is missing. Prima facie, the leg was bitten off by an animal. But there are no injury marks on the body,” he said.
