For the last two years, Khar (West) residents have been complaining about a choked sewerage line on the 16th Road, but the civic officials are yet to fix it permanently.

“On receiving our complaints, the civic officials visit the spot and temporarily fix the pipeline. But after a few days, it gets choked again and we have to run after the officials yet again,” said a resident, who didn’t want to be identified.

The local ALM members are worried that the area has become a breeding spot for mosquitoes.

“That portion emits a foul smell and has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. If not fixed before the monsoon, it might lead to the spread of diseases too,” said Bindu Tondon of the Khar 16th Road Residence Association.

“The overflowing water goes up to the 13th Road junction and 10-12 residential buildings are affected. At present, it does not overflow much, but the situation would get worse during monsoon. Why can’t the civic authorities fix the pipeline once and for all?” said Tondon.

Civic officials said they have been following up each and every complaint from the area.
