In a move to tighten security, KEM hospital has installed scanner to check the baggage of people who enter the hospital. KEM would be the first public hospital to start this initiative.

On July 26, 2008, 21 bomb blasts hit Ahmedabad city, including two blasts at public hospitals which killed 56 people and injured nearly 200.
