Advocate KP Pawar, who has been assisting Kazmi in defending Pakistani gunman Ajmal Kasab, has taken over the charge as the main defence lawyer as per the directives of the court, Nikam said.

Both Pawar and Kazmi were appointed by the special court judge ML Tahaliyani to defend Kasab. While Kazmi was the main laywer, Pawar was appointed to assist him.

After removing Kazmi, the court today asked Pawar, who has over two decades of experience in legal profession, to assume charge as the main lawyer.

Pawar assured the court that he would do his best to defend Kasab.
