The crime branch sleuths on Friday cracked the robbery case of a Titan watch showroom at Borivli. The showroom was robbed on July 31. The sleuths arrested three Kashmir-based robbers and recovered 31 stolen watches, an I-phone, toy pistol and SIM cards which they used to make threat calls to the showroom owner.

“Mehraj Mir, 26; Jahur Lone, 21; and Pir Shafi, 22, were arrested from Goregaon. Posing as D-Gang members, they had been making threat calls to the showroom owner since July 22. They had demanded a ransom amount of Rs20 lakh from him, and if not paid, had threatened to kill the owner’s family,” senior inspector Sunil Kavalekar of crime branch (Unit VII) said.

Initially, the victim who owns The World of Titan showrooms at Mulund and Borivli, had not paid heed to the threat calls. On July 31, at 9.35pm, the robbers entered his showroom at Borivli. Brandishing pistols, they looted 31 wrist watches and an I-Phone, belonging to the showroom manager, and made their escape.

After the robbery, they kept threatening the owner, telling him that they had shown him just the trailer, and the picture will follow. They warned him that they would go to any length to get Rs20 lakh from him.

The police registered a case of robbery. The callers used to track the victim’s movements, and followed him wherever he went. Kavalekar and his crime branch team took down the details of the threat calls received and the language used by the accused. After scrutinising the complaint in details and verifying the modus operandi of the accused, the cops zeroed down on the trio at Goregaon.
