Adequate security will be provided across various theatres in the city to ensure the peaceful release of Shah Rukh Khan starrer My Name is Khan, the police said today.

"Adequate security personnel will be deployed at theatres where the film will be screened in the city. We have assured full protection to the distributors, exhibitors and to film maker Karan Johar," Joint Commissioner of Police Himanshu Roy said.

Fearing a backlash by Shiv Sena workers, film director Karan Johar, distributors and exhibitors today met police commissioner D Sivanandan seeking personal assurance.

"Their concern was that there are some political parties suggesting that the film be banned or not be released. They
told us that they have received some calls (threatening) in
this regard," Roy said.

"Security to some people might be provided," he said refusing to divulge the names of those who would be given special protection.

If required viewers may be asked to produce their identity cards before entering the theatres, Roy said adding that a final call in this regard will be taken later.

Karan Johar, director and co-producer of Shahrukh-Kajol starrer My Name is Khan had met Mumbai police commissioner, D Sivanandan to discuss the security issues ahead of the movie's release on February 12.

Karan alongwith a group of exhibitors and distributors met the Commisioner at his office here to seek protection for the audience and theatres screening the movie amidst threats to stall the release of his latest offering, police said.

"We came here to get a personal assurance on the security concerns regarding the screening of the movie and the police have assured us full security. The movie will be released on the scheduled date and advance bookings are open nationwide," Karan told reporters after the meeting.

Shiv Sena had threatened to disrupt the screening of My Name is Khan after Shah Rukh voiced his displeasure over the exclusion of Pakistani players from the third season of IPL.

However, Sena chief Bal Thackeray in an edit in party mouthpiece Saamana later said that his party will not oppose the release of the movie.

BJP leader Shaina NC, along with representatives of Fox Star Studios, the distributors of the movie had met director general of police, A N Roy last week, seeking complete security for the movie in the backdrop of Sena's threat to disrupt its screening.
