Officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) recently arrested a Kandivli-based businessman for allegedly undervaluing consignments to evade customs duty amounting to Rs5 crore. “An importer, Naveen Agarwal, proprietor of M/s Alfa India, was arrested on November 12 for allegedly undervaluing consignments of tin plates, CR coils and HMS scraps,” said a DRI officer.
The DRI learnt that firms like M/s Leberry International Pvt Ltd, M/s Sun Corporation, M/s Alfa India and M/s Balaji International were evading customs duty by undervaluing
the goods.
During investigations it was found that Agarwal was also involved in the day-to-day activities of M/s Leberry International Pvt Ltd and M/s Sun Corporation owned by Rajesh Agarwal.
The prices declared in the invoices the DRI found were also much lower than the actual price of the consignment, the officer said.
He added that they had recorded the statement of a few of Agarwal’s employees and were now on the lookout for Rajesh Agarwal.
