Mumbai: Sankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi, seer of Kanchipuram, called for separate special courts to deal with religious disputes on an urgent basis to tackle the growing incidents of intolerance leading to law and order problem.

Sankaracharya said that such courts should be set in each state of the country for speedy trial.

The chiefs of all akharas in the country gathered in the city at the first conference of the Dharma Raksha Manch at the Somaiya ground near Sion. In an interview with DNA the Kanchi seer shared his opinion on various subjects:

On Sankara TV: The channel is very popular in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Now we are talking to Reliance to take it to other parts of the country. Initially, the TV channel will spread the message of peace and try to inculcate tolerance among the community. It will have preaching of various Hindu leaders as well as information on natural medicine, Ayurveda and Yoga.

On Ramjanmabhoomi: You cannot keep an indefinite stay on sensitive issues like this. Some decisions have to be taken on these issues keeping in the mind the interest of the large community in this country. Also, an Act to regulate cow slaughter is required.
This will help create awareness about importance of life.

On India: Each state has its legislative body and above them is the Centre. Various administrative subjects are decided between the two Central and state lists. But there is also a "concurrent list" which causes problems. We Hindu leaders demand the abolition of the concurrent list, which is the major hindrance to the development of the country.

On Mumbai attack: We could have controlled somebody if they are from our own country. But what can you say when it is being done by some foreign hands? Our investigation process is very slow and we are yet to find the person really responsible for the Malegaon blast.

I agree with you, Sekhar. One does not have to wait for 25 years and a favourable government-controlled CBI clean chit to be exonerated. Or could it be that one is exonerated quickly because the person happens to be the son of the chief minister and the trial is held in a neighbouring state to ensure that all key witnesses refuse to testify?

Religious disputes, even at the national level, are still civil disputes. I think murder cases should be tried in a very short time and the guilty sentenced immediately without bail, even on appeal. What say you, Jayendra Saraswathi?
