Police on Wednesday warned cricketer Vinod Kambli's wife and her servant after a physically-challenged woman lodged a non-cognisable offence, saying the two assaulted her.
Complainant Evit Fernandes, who runs a snacks stall on the Saint John Baptist Road in Bandra (West), approached the police on Monday, saying Kambli's servant, Pinky, had slapped her.
In her complaint, Fernandes said Kambli's wife Andrea very often visited her stall to buy eatables. A few days ago, they had a fight over payment.
"On Monday, Andrea came along with Pinky in an autorickshaw. She asked Pinky to get down and slap me. Both the women then left in the same rickshaw," Fernandes said in her statement. The police then registered a non-cognisable offence under section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.
Deputy commissioner of police KMM Prasanna said the police warned Andrea and Pinky. He said Fernandes had been advised to approach the court and get a direction to investigate the complaint.
