Shiv Sena, which has consistently opposed the Jaitapur nuclear power plant, today said clearance to the Kudankulam project site by former President APJ Abdul Kalam was not enough to allay fears related to a nuclear project.

"All issues related to safety are not addressed only through a certificate from one person," Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray told reporters here.

"We have still not received satisfactory answers over the concerns (regarding a nuclear plant). Very soon we would be keeping a seminar. People who have been opposing and favouring the (Jaitapur) nuclear project would speak in it," he said.

Uddhav was responding to a query on Kalam's backing to the Kudankulam nuclear project site.

The missile scientist has mooted a Rs200 crore 10-point action plan for development of the area around Kudankulam nuclear project, while appealing people not to have even a 'nano-sized doubt' over the power plant's safety.

The Sena leader said other states were welcome to take away the proposed nuclear project at Jaitapur in Maharashtra's Ratnagiri district.

"Whichever state is interested can take the nuclear project from here. After the Jaitapur project, other states would purchase electricity from here. Similarly, after it is taken from here we can purchase electricity from there," he said.

Commenting on the on going feud between Industries Minister Narayan Rane of Congress and Minister of State for Urban Development Bhaskar Jadhav of the NCP, he said, "When they were in Shiv Sena, party chief Bal Thackeray watched them closely and when he came across their unruly behaviour they were kicked out of the party."

The onus is now on the Congress to take action. It is the test of their weak leadership, not ours, he added.
