Journalists at DNA felt a lot younger on Wednesday afternoon when 20 children from the Orchid School, Baner, paid a two-hour visit to the office.

The school is planning to launch its own web-based monthly magazine, The Orkids, in August. Students from classes VI to VIII, who are a part of The Orkids editorial team, were keen to interact with journalists and see the working of a newspaper from up close.

The children were curious and quick to grasp the many aspects of news gathering operations and newspaper production. Inevitably, they asked many questions, demonstrating their keen interest and curiosity about the news media.

Teacher Pradeep Gothoskar, who accompanied them said, “The Orkids will include literary and art works of Orchid students of all ages. The magazine would also cover news and events happening in and around the school.’’

According to Gothoskar, the primary objective of the magazine is to provide a forum where students learn to work together as a team and deliver high-quality work within a deadline.

“We are hoping that this environment would give the children a chance to step into professional roles and grow into them,’’ Gothoskar said.
