‘Pune Darshan’, the special bus which takes tourist to various landmarks in the city during a day-long tour, has added one more attraction to its itinerary this summer — the Joshi’s Museum of Miniature Railways — a destination that is equally enjoyed by both children and adults.

The special bus service is run by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The museum, situated near Karishma Society, off Karve Road, Kothrud, is conducting two shows per day for the tourists of ‘Pune Darshan’ bus.

Started by late Bhau Joshi, who was fond of collecting train models since childhood, the museum today has working models of around 10-15 different types of trains found in various parts of the world. Theses include the working models of old steam engines to the bullet train of Japan. All these working train model are a part of a huge layout of a miniature city and are exhibited through an interesting theme-based light and sound show, which describes  features of each element in an attractive manner.

The layout has nearly 1,000 wires coming out of the control panel. There are 65 signals, fences, lamp posts, flyovers and so on, which are hand created using chemical etching techniques. The control panel has been designed so that the entire layout can be operated manually or can be computer controlled.
