BVS members beat up professor for “using offensive language, asking indecent questions”

In what appears to have become a familiar trend these days, members of the Bharatiya Vidyarthi Sena (BVS), a student wing of the Shiv Sena, stormed the ground floor office of Sir JJ School of Arts near CST on Wednesday and roughed up a teacher “forindecent behaviour with girl students.”

Prof Kiran Gimankar, 35, of the Metal Works Department found himself face to face with over 25 members of the BVS, including 15 girls led by Anuradha Kelshikar after some girl students complained that he often used indecent language.

What began as an argument soon degenerated into fisticuffs as BVS activists roughed up Gimankar and tore off his clothes before fleeing from the scene. Meanwhile, police were informed about the incident.

A BVS activist said girls students had been complaining that Gimankar often pressured them to answer indecent questions. He would also insist that girls accompany him till the gate. Finally, some girls approached BVS for filing a police complaint.

However, the BVS took matter in its own hands and sought to teach the teacher a lesson. Cops at the Azad Maidan police station, located barely 300 meters away, had no idea about the incident till 1pm. They learnt about it when someone at the JJ School of Arts informed them.

Senior Police Inspector Prakash Khanvilkar of Azad Maidan police said, “We have taken Gimankar’s statement and registered a case of trespass, wrongful assembly and rioting against the BVS members. A manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits.”

Vishwanath Sable, head of printing and crafts department said no complaint had been received against Gimankar.

NB Pasalkar, director of theState Technical Education and also the in-charge of the Sir JJ School of Arts, said, “We will conduct an enquiry into the matter after which a decision will be taken.”
