He worked as a computer engineer in Ghaziabad. She was from Mumbai. They met online, exchanged numbers, and eventually fell in love. A few months later, when the woman called off the relationship, the jilted man decided to have his revenge... by sending lewd SMSes to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS)leaders via the internet.
Officers of the Malad police station recently arrested Adarsh Ashok Sinha, 34, for allegedly sending abusive text messages from the internet using his ex-girlfriend's number.
According to the police, Sinha, who works with a leading computer manufacturing company in Ghaziabad, would regularly chat with Anita Kulkarni (name changed), a resident of Malad. But in October Kulkarni decided to break up with him.
"Sinha was very angry and wanted to teach Kulkarni a lesson," said inspector Deepak Phatangde, Malad police station. "He managed to get the mobile numbers of MNS leaders Manish Dhuri and Neela Desai and started sending them vulgar messages from a website that allows you to send free SMSes. But he gave Kulkarni's number as the source."
The MNS politicians approached the police and showed them the obscene SMSes following which a complaint was registered. "We traced the number to Kulkarni and called her to the police station for questioning," Phatangde said. "She, however, told us this was Sinha's doing and he was trying to land her in trouble for ending the relationship."
A police team then left for Ghaziabad and arrested Sinha on November 25, senior inspector Maruti Rathod said. Sinha has been booked for intending to insult and outrage the modesty of a woman (section 509 of the Indian Penal Code).
A senior police officer said that apart from people in Mumbai, Sinha was allegedly sending abusive messages randomly to people in Kolkata and Chennai as well.
Interestingly, this isn't the first time Sinha in trouble with the law. "He had been arrested in August 2008 for posting defamatory messages against Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on the networking site Orkut," the officer said.
