A day after the crime branch named Jigna Vora as an instigator in the supplementary charge sheet in the J Dey murder case, investigations have revealed that she used Bobby Deol’s brother-in-law’s mobile to make calls before and after the journalist was shot dead. Dey was killed by motorcycle-borne assailants on June 11, 2011.
A senior crime branch official said Vora, who went to Sikkim and Darjeeling between June 9 and 18, kept her phone switched off and used the mobile given to her by business honcho Vikram Ahuja, son of Devendra Ahuja and brother of Bobby Deol’s wife, Tania.
Vikram’s name features in the charge sheet and he was called for questioning on Wednesday. The police said it recovered his phone after Vora’s arrest last year. “Vikram admitted that he gave the phone to Vora, but said he had no clue how she was using it,” a police officer said. “Vora knew Vikram through a common friend. We will speak to him again once when we get the forensic report of Vora’s mobiles and laptops.”
Joint commissioner of police, crime, Himanshu Roy said Vora kept using the other phone during her trip to avoid surveillance.
Devendra Ahuja was managing director of the erstwhile 20th Century Finance and had strained relations with his wife and Vikram. He died in August 2010, leaving a major chunk of his properties and assets for his daughter, Tania. Vikram was involved in a bitter legal battle with his late father.
