Bestselling author Jeffrey Archer is in the city for the release of his latest collection of short stories, titled And Thereby Hangs A Tale.

He will launch the book and also inaugurate the Landmark bookstore in Palladium, High Street Phoenix, on Tuesday. Fans will get an opportunity for a teta-a-tete with the author at the bookstore.

And Thereby Hangs A Tale is Archer’s seventh collection of short stories. Ten of the 15 stories in this volume are inspired by people he met all over the world, including India. The story Caste off is set in New Delhi and the characters are based on people he met in Mumbai.

“I was late for a dinner party and had the opportunity of talking to a boy and a girl — who had inspired the characters in the story — getting different perspectives of their tale,” he said.

All 15 stories — like most of Archer’s other works — have a twist, “some of which even surprised me”, he said.

Why choose India for the launch of his book? “I’ve visited India many times and each time it’s amazing to see how much the country has changed,” he said. “India is progressing more than any nation on earth.” He added that it was encouraging to know that he had a huge fan base in India. “Over 50 million Indians have read Kane And Abel,” he said.

“Lord Archer is among the most popular authors in the world, and we are honoured that he has chosen our new store at Palladium for the worldwide release of his book,” said Himanshu Chakrawarti, COO, Landmark. “We will not find a better way to celebrate the launch of our store.”

After his first novel Not A Penny More, Not A Penny Less, which is one of his most popular works even today, Archer has written 15 novels, seven collections of short stories, three plays and three volumes of the Prison Diaries, documenting his experiences in prison.

Archer was once an MP and the deputy chairman of UK’s Conservative Party.
