Jeep mows down schoolgirl in Kurla

One student was killed while another was injured when a speeding Mahindra jeep knocked them down in front of their school at Thakkar Bappa Colony road at Kurla (East) on Thursday.

“Jamuna Dholia, 10, succumbed to her injuries at Sion Hospital while under going treatment on Thursday evening. While Dolly Dhuvasia, 11, was still undergoing treatment at Rajawadi Hospital,” said sub inspector Ashok Gadve of the Nehru Nagar police station. He added that the jeep driver Ashfaq Nagouri, 28, a resident of Thakkar Bappa colony at Kurla (East), has been arrested.

Both girls were studying in Std IV of the BMC’s Thakkar Bappa Hindi Medium School at the Thakkar Bappa Colony. The incident took place at around 8.15 am. The girls were crossing the road near their school when the accident took place. Nagouri lost control of his vehicle and knocked off the two girls.

The girls were rushed to the Rajawadi Hospital for treatment. Jamuna sustained severe head and chest injuries and was in the ICU. As per doctor’s instructions, she was shifted to Sion hospital where she was declared dead at 5.30pm.

“The girl had suffered multiple ruptures on her liver and was bleeding internally. She suffered a cardiac arrest soon after she was brought here,” said Dr Sandhya Kamat, dean of Sion hospital.
