Noted scientist and former director general of Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Raghunath Mashelkar, on Sunday said the present best practices in education in the 21st century have to be updated and learning through information technology (IT) tools has to be the key.

He was speaking on the occasion of International Students’ Day organised by Symbiosis International University at its Vishwabhavan auditorium on Sunday.

He said, “The challenge in the present century education is to take cognisance of the changing times. The education leadership has to be thought-based, which will develop next practices and not just best practices.”

“This next learning practice will be innovation-driven and based on e-learning systems, where there will be no constraints like classroom teaching and interactive education will take place,” Mashelkar said.

Mashelkar said though the world is facing terrorism and violence, Symbiosis International University (SIU) is the symbol of brotherhood and one family where students of various countries learn under one roof.

A student from Afghanistan, Mohammad Riaz Sadat, who was adjudged the most outstanding student, was felicitated.
