Congress city unit chief Kripashankar Singh says a personal attack on any political leader is uncalled for. Referring to Narayan Rane’s verbal attacks on deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar and home minister RR Patil a few days ago, Singh says there was no justification behind criticising ministers from the ally party. Excerpts from his interview with Surendra Gangan:

Political pundits claim that chances of grabbing a good number of seats in the BMC were hampered due to verbal clashes among leaders from both parties, particularly Rane’s swipe at his colleagues from the cabinet.

I believe that no leader should attack on a personal level. Secondly, it’s unethical to criticise ministers from the ally party, as the decisions taken and the responsibilities shouldered by the government are collective. But, everything was settled after the zilla parishad (ZP) elections were held on February 7. We were fighting against each other in the ZP elections and hence, taking on cabinet colleagues was bound to happen.

Your party has seen the largest number of rebellions. There were only three rebellions, as our sitting corporators like Meena Desai and Vidya Shukla were pitted against official party candidates. But I can name at least eight rebels, who later announced their support to the party. A few of them met me a couple of days ago and voiced their support for the party candidates.
But key city leaders like Priya Dutt and Gurudas Kamat had expressed their discontent during the procedure of selection of candidates.

See, one should understand the selection procedure of the candidates for the polls. We have a panel of observers that considers potential candidates. The panel has top leaders from the state and observers from the Centre. There were some differences, but everything has now been cleared up and all the leaders are campaigning together in the interest of the party.
A joint meeting of the Congress-NCP-RPI alliance saw poor response.

The decision to hold a meeting was taken just a day before the rally. We hardly got any time to make proper arrangements. Otherwise, the alliance has got good response across the city.
