Thanks to students fromIIT-B’s Entrepreneurship Cell, any college student from across the nation, irrespective of his or her education stream, can now sign up for Virtual Stock Market, an online game with prizes worth Rs1 lakh.
Radhika Goel, from the E-Cell of IIT-B, said, “Virtual Stock Market has always been a hit on campus. But making it national is a big step for us. We are proud that our servers have been made strong enough to handle the nationwide traffic on the website.”
“Virtual Stock Market is geared to create an environment of friendly competition that will enable future entrepreneurs to learn fundamental concepts, break psychological barriers and think differently. Virtual Stock Market offers a real-time simulation of the market, giving people the opportunity to learn how markets function, without actually losing money,” she said.
“It is an initiative designed to give students an idea of the world of finance and markets. It is based on the original market, to help students understand the fundamentals of investment, stocks and various technical details such as how different events affect different companies,” she added.
Moreover, the E-Cell is also going to conduct workshops in different Mumbai institutes for students to understand stock markets. Professional trainers will be overseeing these workshops.
“Some students are curious about stock markets, but due to lack of understanding, they do not actually try to follow them. While Virtual Stock Market is an initiative to help youngsters understand markets with hands-on experience, we will be conducting workshops for those who do not know anything about them, but really want to understand them while playing,” said Radhika.
The event will be held from January 23-25, 2012, between 9-10 pm. There is no registration fee. Register for the event by visiting E-Cell’s website: www.ecell.in
