The Bombay high court recently rapped the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) over illegal constructions but the corporators have demanded that the civic chief not act against the complaints of illegal construction that have been filed by a habitual complainer.
On Wednesday there was a group meeting in the mayor’s chamber at the civic headquarter, leaders from all the political parties in BMC were present. In that meeting Shivsena leader Sunil Prabhu stated that habitual complainers are a nuisance. The assistant commissioners and other officials of all wards are fed up by these types of complaints, he added.
BJP leader Bhalchandra Shirsat, Congress leader Sameer Desai also supported his request and alleged that such complainers are blackmailers. They threatened the civic officials and developers too. With the corporators demanding that complains not be entertained, it was very difficult for commissioner Subodhkumar to respond on the issue. He kept mum for a while and replied that it is not possible to find out who blackmailers are and who habitual complainers are. It is BMC’s duty to act according to the complaints, he added.
“If there is a complaint we will act against it, if they have done their job right, then the officials need not anything,” the commissioner said.
Desai, the Congress corporator said that they had not asked to ignore complains against illegal constructions. “The issue we raised was about the menace of professional complainers, who blackmail all the sections in the wards including BMC officials and corporators,” he said.
“We only concerned about the professional complainers, who are known to demoralise the civic officials,” said Sunil Prabhu.
