Subhash Chandra, promoter of the Zee group, said that the Indian Cricket League (ICL) is not out yet. Chandra said that the BCCI has attempted to monopolise the game and tried every trick in the trade to throw “us out of business.” He said, “ICL is not out yet. I believe that one doesn’t fail until one stops trying.”

Chandra said that having conviction in what you do is very important. He said, “If you have conviction then I am sure a lot of things in life can be tackled and we can find a lot of answers. One journalist wrote that I have been through the valley of death. She said that Zee TV dropped to number 3 from its apex position. The dotcom bubble also burst at that time and the stock price of Zee fell down to Rs60 a share from Rs1,500 a share.”

Chandra said that he told the journalist that he had been through the valley of death three times earlier and came out smoothly every time.

Chandra said that questioning is very important if one wants to succeed. He said, “If we are proactive in giving customers what they want, then they will stay with the company for a long time. I question this. Why will they stay with us if our competitor also gives them the same services?” Chandra said that he questioned why he wasn’t allowed to set up a private television station in India. “At that time private players weren’t allowed in the TV space. I questioned that and now there are over 400 channels in India.”
