Munde supporters were reminded that the emergency meeting was not convened for a show of strength, but to apprise party members of the developments in the conflict between BJP president Nitin Gadkari and senior party leader Gopinath Munde.
Though Bharatiya Janata Party’s state unit succeeded in bringing its all legislators and parliamentarians together for a meeting on Tuesday, it had to silence the voices that rose in support of the disgruntled Gopinath Munde.
Munde supporters were reminded that the emergency meeting was not convened for a show of strength, but to apprise party members of the developments in the conflict between BJP president Nitin Gadkari and senior party leader Gopinath Munde.
Munde was upset that that he was not invited for the meeting. “I never missed any party meeting in last 20 years, but this time I was not invited. I am disappointed. But, I am still in the BJP and any decision will be taken only after consulting all colleagues,” said Munde.
But, the state party leadership claimed that a formal invitation was sent to Munde, in addition to several SMSes to check if he had received it.
Soon after the meeting commenced at the party office in Vidhan Bhavan, state unit president Sudhir Mungantiwar tried moving a resolution claiming support from all legislators and MPs in the party leadership.
Opposing the move, Munde supporters Sambhaji Pawar and Madhuri Misal demanded permission to air their grievances. But leader of Opposition in the state assembly Eknath Khadse denied permission.
They were asked to instead individually present their case to him later in his office, but Munde supporters did not go to meet him.
After the meeting, Khadse told mediapersons that Munde was their leader and will remain to be one of the key leaders. He maintained that that there was no question of a split in the party and Munde will stay. “He will never leave the party,” Khadse said.
