Many residents of Bandra (East), Andheri, Dharavi, Worli Koliwada and Ghatkopar saw water enter their homes. Cardinal Gracious Road, Bandra, and Hindmata, Dadar, were among the worst-affected areas.

Shyam Desai, a resident of Cardinal Gracious Society, said, “My house got flooded. I was forced to skip office as I had to shift valuable belongings.” Many residents of Lalbagh had similar tales to tell. The island city got 78.6mm rains, while the suburbs received 95mm.

Nilesh Gada, who runs a garment shop in Ambedkar Nagar, said, “No matter what the BMC does, we face the same problem every year. Water enters our shops and damages everything. Monsoon is a curse in our area.”

The family of Shweta Pritammatre had to starve for the night as water accumulated at her place. “How can I cook when there is knee-deep water inside my home. Fortunately it did not reach waist level. Otherwise, we would not have found refuge on our bed either,” she said.

Similar accounts poured in from Bamanwada in Andheri (East), Ghatkopar, Gandhinagar and JB Nagar, Adheri (West). The rains subsided by mid-day, and the water level also receded.
