Oshiwara police officials conducting a raid at a hookah parlour as an aftermath of a recent HC order, were in for a shock as they found pictures of several top cops, including their zonal deputy commissioner of police, placed inside it. The pictures, which were reportedly clicked during several of the Mohalla Ekta committee meetings attended by these officers, were allegedly put in order to keep the local cops and civic officials at bay.

The police had carried out the raid at Tall Grass restaurant where hookah was served without any legal permission. The raid was conducted after a tip-off, the police officials said.

“It was shocking to learn that the pictures unsuspectingly clicked at the community events are misused by this particular hookah parlour,” said deputy commissioner of police KMM Prasanna. The officials say that the restaurant had pictures of Prasanna, inspector general of police Parambir Singh, and former police commissioner Julio Rebeiro. “I don’t even know the person who unsuspectingly stood beside me during the committee meeting,” Prasanna adds.

This is not the first time that the Mohalla Ekta committee has been exploited by certain elements for their personal use. Even in the past, scores of instances were brought to the notice of the police, where some people have indulged in corrupt practices under the disguise of claiming to be close to police officials. The mohalla ekta committee members in the past were issued identification-cards by the police department, but it was banned after its misuse began to come out in the open.
