An inter-caste marriage against the wishes of the family motivated a father to seek revenge by giving supari to local goons to eliminate his son-in-law. The crime branch has arrested three persons for allegedly trying to kill the victim. The police are now on a lookout for the father, who is absconding. The arrested have been identified as Kishore Sharma alias Akhtar, 32, Dinesh Verma, 21, and Rahul Pashi alias Afzal, 23.

According to the police, the victim, Faizal Chitke, 25, a mechanic and resident of Malad (E), had a love marriage with Puja Jain in May last year. Although the marriage was registered, it was against the wishes of Puja’s family.

“On May 21, Chitke received a call from a person who identified himself as Akhtar and asked Chitke to repair his bike. On May 24, another person called Chitke and again requested him to repair his bike,” said assistant police commissioner, JK Hargude.

He added that, an unsuspecting Chitke called Afzal to his residence. Afzal came to Chitke’s residence on the same day and from there they went to Mira Road. “On reaching an isolated place, few people hit Chitke with bamboo sticks after which he fell unconscious. The attackers probably thought that Chitke was dead and left, but after few hours Chitke regained consciousness and went to a nearby hospital for treatment and registered a complaint against unknown persons,” Hargude said.

On receipt of specific information, Sharma, Verma and Pashi were arrested by the Dahisar unit of crime branch on Monday. The police are now on the lookout for Jain, who is believed to be the mastermind of the case.
