History sheeter arrested for ransacking police station

The suspect has been identified as Soldier Madhukar Gaikwad, a resident of Mohannagar in Chinchwad.

The Chinchwad police arrested a 30-year-old history sheeter for allegedly ransacking the Chinchwad police station under the influence of alcohol. He tried to end life after he was told to wait for sometime before registering his complaint on Friday night at the station.

The suspect has been identified as Soldier Madhukar Gaikwad, a resident of Mohannagar in Chinchwad.

According to the police, Gaikwad was injured in a scuffle with some persons near the Nigdi railway station. Around 11.15 pm, he came to the Chinchwad police station to lodge a complaint.

However, head constable JN Panchal, who was registering a woman’s complaint, told Gaikwad to wait for sometime. Angered by this, Gaikwad allegedly broke door glass, window panes and started hitting himself on his head and hand with broken glass.

Later, the police managed to overpower him. Gaikwad has damaged property worth Rs20,000, the police said. A complaint was filed against Gaikwad under IPC, 1860.

The police said there are cases of burglary and robbery registered against Gaikwad with the Pimpri police station. He was externed before Ganeshotsav and returned after the expiry of externment period.

One held for murder
The Khadki police have arrested Sanjay Walmiki and booked his associate Dutta Sharma for allegedly murdering a 35-year-old autorickshaw driver on May 24 in Khadki. Sharma is still at large. According to the police, the suspects had assaulted Pillay with sharp weapons and left his body in shrubs in the Khadki area. Probe reveals that the deceased had an extramarital affair with Sharma’s wife.
