Heavy rains slow down traffic in Mumbai

The city recorded 31.3mm of rains, eastern suburbs received 26.1mm while western suburbs recorded 11.5mm of rainfall from 8.30am to 5.30pm.

Rains lashed several parts of the city today resulting in traffic slowing down and complaints of water logging reported from low-lying areas.

According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Disaster Management Cell, the city recorded 31.3mm of rains, eastern suburbs received 26.1mm while western suburbs recorded 11.5mm of rainfall from 8.30am to 5.30pm.

Complaints of water logging were reported from areas like Hindmata, Bycualla, Parel, Sion, Kalabadevi, Andheri, Juhu and Bandra, officials said.

Train services were running late by at least 15 minutes on both western and central lines. Road traffic was slow but there were no snarls on any of the arterial routes while the air traffic was normal, they said adding few incidents of tree collapse were reported from different parts of the city.

The weather bureau has forecast frequent spells of rain or showers in parts of city and suburbs tomorrow as well.
