President of the Appropriate Rural Technology Institute (Arti), Dr AD Karve, will be felicitated at a public function on his birthday on November 22. The function will be held at Vedshastrottejak Sabha, near Sanas ground at 5 pm.

Karve had led Arti’s team in conducting research on sustainable energy for which the institute had got the prestigious Ashden award two times — in 2006 for designing a compact biogas system and in 2002 for developing environment-friendly charcoaling technology and Sarai cooking system fuelled by charcoal.

Project coordinator of Arti, Priyadarshini Karve, told the media on Monday that Karve would be felicitated by social activist Anil Avachat.

An exhibition of Arti’s technologies would also be held. A national consultation programme on biochar, a material high in black carbon produced from thermal decomposition of biomass through heating in a low oxygen environment, has also been organised on November 22 and 23.

The meet aims at shaping information on sustainable agriculture through waste management. International and national experts would participate in the meet. Progressive farmers and waste management service providers can also join in, Priyadarshini said.

The last date for registration is November 18. Contact 020-25460138.
