ShareMUMBAI: The Bombay High Court on Thursday refused to grant a stay on the screening of the film Tickle My Funny Bone, but directed the police to take action if the advertisement of the controversial movie contained obscenity.
A division bench comprising Justices D G Deshpande and V K Tahilramani gave directions in response to a petition filed by Advocate Gerry Cohello objecting to the posters of the film and praying to the court to seize the prints and ban the movie for hurting religious sentiments.
The petitioner's counsels Jamshed Mistry and Pradeep Honur contended that the poster depicted a nun in a bad light and hurt religious sentiments. This was an offence under the Indian Penal
Code.
They stated that the tag line on the poster -- 'story of a naughty nun' was derogatory to the nuns and complained that neither the police nor the State had taken any action in this matter.
While opposing the petition, the Censor Board counsel argued that the board had given 'A' certificate to the film and deleted the objectionable part from it, hence nothing objectionable remained to take action in it.
The court adjourned the hearing to the first week of June.
