H1N1 claims one-year-old

The death of a one-year-old girl at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH) on Friday has taken the H1N1 death toll to eight since March 1.

The baby, who was a resident of Vidyanagar in Chinchwad, was admitted to YCMH on March 21 but had developed symptoms of fever, cough and breathlessness since March 18.

She died of viral pneumonia while undergoing treatment at YCMH’s ICU for three days.

Meanwhile, 19 more people tested positive for the infection on Friday.

Currently 55 patients are undergoing treatment in isolation wards across private hospitals, while 19 patients are in ICU. Six patients continue to be on ventilator, while 10 patients were discharged from hospitals. A total of 4,807 patients were screened for the H1N1 infection on Friday.
