Kannada actress Maria Susairaj, the key accused in the murder case of TV executive Neeraj Grover, has got a new lawyer to defend her in the trial which will be held daily from September 24.
Susairaj appointed advocate Sharif Shaikh to defend her after her earlier counsels, Sudeep Pasbola and Murthy Acharya, withdrew from the case following allegations that they had threatened a prime prosecution witness.
Shaikh will cross-examine witness Usha Ramalu on September 24. Additional Sessions Judge CA Jadhav today said the trial will be conducted on a day-to-day basis from September 24.
Susairaj and her fiance Emile Jerome Mathew, a navy officer, have been accused of murdering Grover at the her suburban Oshiwara residence in May last year following an altercation.
Mathew today filed an application before the court seeking home food in jail. The court directed jail authorities to file their reply on the plea by September 24.
