Dr MS Kamath, honorary secretary of CGSI, said the group will start initiatives to help citizens get a better deal as consumers.

“The first two issues in focus are the checks on the weighing scale and dead calls,” said Kamath. For this, the CGSI will  sell stones whose weights will be attested by them. Each stone will be sold at Rs10.

The other option is to call CGSI on 1800222262. “They will have to register with us and we will then check the place,” said Kamath.

After registeration, citizens can also send milk samples to the CGSI. The samples will be tested at Rs30 per test and the report will be sent to the consumer. In case, they want to conduct the test on their own, citizens can buy a kit for Rs50.

“Dead calls is not even known to TRAI. Consumers can SMS us their complaint,” said Kamath. The SMS can be sent to 8082808080. Type Deadmobile number to which calledDD/MMTime.
