Bowing to pressure from members cutting across party lines, Maharashtra energy minister Ajit Pawar, today assured the State Legislative Assembly to consider uniformity in electricity tariff in Mumbai on par with Delhi pattern.

Replying to Subhash Desai (Sena) and others, during question hour over rise in power tariff by Reliance Power in Mumbai, Pawar responding to members' suggestion to fix a uniformity like Delhi, assured to study the Delhi pattern.

Members contended that increase in power bills of Reliance was unjustified, and there should be one rate for entire Mumbai.

Pawar earlier said that all the four companies including Reliance, Tata and BEST were supplying power to Mumbai and the tariff was different due to different sources of power generation.

Tata was producing power through hydro which was cheapest one, others through thermal and gas and that is why the rates cannot remain same.

The Maharashtra State Electricity Regulation Commission (MERC) had stayed the increased rates of Reliance Power from July 15 following a directive from the Maharashtra government.
