After taking a tough stand with radiologists to implement the Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act more effectively, the state government is now mulling over the idea to track every pregnancy in Maharashtra.

The issue was discussed on Monday at the meeting of the state supervisory board for implementation of the PCPNDT Act. Public health minister Suresh Shetty is the chairman of the board.
Health officials have been asked to study the initiatives of Pune and Navi Mumbai municipal corporations which have already started tracking pregnancies to keep a tab on conception, delivery and abortion figures to rule out sex selective abortions.
