Followers of BJP leader Gopinath Munde held a meeting in the city on Thursday after their leader decided to stay put in the party. The followers were told to consider political compulsions.
MLA Madhuri Misal; former general secretary Yogesh Gogawale; former city vice-president Sandip Khardekar and a sizeable section of party activists were present for this ‘get-together’.
Misal said that the news was leaked in the media that Munde might leave the BJP to prevent any rapprochement. “Munde was not fighting for his own interest; he was struggling to protect the interests of party activists,” she said.
For the last few days there was uneasiness amongst activists. Hence, the meeting was organised to bring them together, she added.
Though the demand to cancel the appointment of newly elected city president Vikas Mathkari persisted, it should not be attributed to Munde, she said.
