Godman’s disciple in rape slur

A 38-year-old US citizen and a software engineer on Monday night registered a complaint against a US citizen of Indian origin for allegedly raping her in America as well as in Mumbai.

The victim, a software engineer by profession, has claimed to have been enticed into a physical relationship by the disciple of godman Swami Nithyanand, who was embroiled in a similar controversy in March 2010.

According to senior inspector Vinod Sawant of the Colaba police station, the victim (name withheld), registered a case under Section 376 and 420 of IPC, for rape and cheating against Vikram Dravid, 38.

The victim had settled in the US after her marriage in 1994. “Dravid is known to the victim’s family. Since they both were religious, they would meet regularly at ashrams in Los Angeles. Eventually, according to her allegations, she was enticed into establishing physical relationship with him,” said the victim’s lawyer Uday Desai. A copy of the vicitim’s complaint as well as the copy of FIR is with DNA.
