“I hope we use this opportunity to create a better connection with Germany,” said Dhanashree Deodhar, a representative of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). She was speaking at the first meet of Alumniportal Deutschland, a portal to connect Puneites who have studied at German universities.

On the occasion, director of Max Mueller Bhavan Michael Flucht said, “The word ‘alumni’ comes from alumnes — a Latin word that means the graduation of school, college or university. This event is unique to the city and should be a chance to work together for generations.”

Alumniportal Deutschland is a website for people all over the world who have studied or trained in Germany. According to Vishal Jadhav, who presented the platform for the portal, it would be used to exchange knowledge and experiences. It would be easy to stay in touch with other people and make new contacts. The platform was launched in Berlin in 2008.

“Thousands of people come to Germany every year to study or participate in advanced training. Back in their home countries, Alumniportal offers the opportunity to keep in contact and share competencies, impressions and experiences. We are a bridge-builder between Germany and other foreign countries,” said Jadhav.

Chief guest Saurav Pal, director of National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) and keynote speaker PKC Bose, managing director of Saertex Group, pointed out the singularity of bringing all people together to connect on their experiences in Germany. They spoke about their own experiences while working with German companies. “It is an interaction among different cultures. It is important to share experiences. This is like a connection line for people all over the world. The Internet is the only way to stay in touch,” said Pal.

The portal also offers an online community with forums for discussions, personal profiles, options to make contacts, blogs and file uploads. In addition, it can be used as an international exchange of jobs and assignments. The website contains information on scholarship programmes and courses of study. At the same time, it is an interactive option to practice the German language.
