The reel gangster was saved by the real gangster. When Shiney Ahuja was bundled into Arthur Road jail late on Thursday evening, other prisoners in the barrack pounced on him. They kept bugging him till dreaded gangster Mustafa Dossa came to Shiney’s rescue.

Dossa ordered them to leave the actor alone. After the crowd dispersed, he tried his best to make Shiney “feel at home”, said a police officer on condition of anonymity.

After spending the night in barrack No 3, where first-timers are kept till they are medically examined, Shiney was shifted to Dossa’s cell around 8 am on Friday.

Ever since his arrest, Shiney had been wearing the same clothes — a grey T-shirt and black jeans — and had not had a bath. Dossa, said a jail source, gave him soap, paste and shampoo. “After a nice scrub bath, Shiney looked more  comfortable than before.
Dossa also arranged for a fresh pair of clothes for the actor,” added the source.

In the afternoon, Shiney was seen talking to IPS officer Shaji Mohan, who has been booked in a narcotics case. It was Mohan who identified the actor and approached him for a casual chat. For breakfast, lunch and dinner, Shiney nibbled on jail food.

The actor, however, didn’t get a chance to meet gangster Abu Salem, on whose life the film Gangster was made. Salem, who had been in Uttar Pradesh, was brought back to the jail on Friday. The two would probably meet during breakfast on Saturday.
Shiney’s wife is likely to meet him during “mulakaat” (the time for kin) around 3 pm on Saturday.
