The twenty-three-year old American student of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) who was allegeldy gangraped by a group of six students from other colleges went back home on June 15. The chargesheet in this case is yet to be filed while the six accused have been remanded in judicial custody and are lodged at Thane jail.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Dilip Sawant, Zone-VI said “The victim is free to go anywhere she wants to, she will return to depose before the court once the trial starts.”
He added, “The chargesheet will be filed by Trombay police soon, we are still collecting evidences against the accused.”
On April 12 the victim who was a student of gender studies and development course at TISS had gone fro party with a friend named Annie Brown who was also a student at TISS and her friends who are students of other colleges in Mumbai. Party was at Cafe XO in Govandi after which Brown returned back to her hostel while the victim stayed back with the five accused. The victim and the five accused then went to Andheri at the flat of the sixth accused where the she was allegedly raped by the six accused when she fell unconscious. Case was registered on April 14 when the victim told her course co-ordinator about the case and they approached the Trombay police.
Three of the six accused were arrested on the same night while two others were arrested on April 15 , the sixth accused in this case was arrested on April 21. All the six students accused in this case are natives of other states in the country and were studying in various leading colleges of the city.
