Operating in a brazen manner, a gang of five dacoits struck at two housing societies situated at a distance of one km in Pimple Saudagar area and broke into 10 flats there within a span of three hours on Tuesday. They also thrashed up a security guard of a society.

However, the culprits could not steal anything from eight of these flats as they were vacant.

The dacoits went on a rampage at Ghanashyam Sai Nisarg Society and Purva Residency between 12.20 am and 3 pm.
Alimar Khan, security guard at Purva residency, told DNA, “On midnight, a gang of five robbers arrived, pounced on me and beat me up. They spoke in Hindi and Marathi and had covered their faces. They tied me up with ropes and bundled me inside a woollen blanket.”

“A knife-wielding robber sat beside me, while four went upstairs and broke into the houses. They put me at an isolated place on society campus before fleeing,” Khan added. Shantaram Tayade, inspector in-charge of Sangvi police station, said, “We have grab of a CCTV footage from one of the societies. Khan opened the gate without checking who was outside. In the other society, the watchmen were sleeping when the incident took place. Most of the flats are vacant as the owners live elsewhere.”

“A silver lamp was stolen from the flat of Shamala Arvind Atale (62), who had gone visiting her son with her husband. Owner of one more burgled house is in Kolhapur and is on the way to Pune,” Tayade added.
