Director general of police, housing, Hassan Gafoor, who is in the eye of a storm due to his alleged derogatory remarks on his colleagues’ behaviourduring the 26/11 attacks, is exploring the possibility of suing the weekly news magazine that first reported the story. The magazine quoted Gafoor as saying that some senior city police officers were missing from action during the terror attack.
“The statements attributed to me are totally false, malicious and libelous. I deny it all,” Gafoor said. “A city-based reporter from the said weekly called on me some days back and our entire conversation was focused around the tragic death[s] of late Hemant Karkare and Ashok Kamte. I told the reporter that they were our best brave officers, who laid down their lives in the call of duty.”
“When the reporter asked about the presence of other officers, I clearly told him that it was not necessary or possible for all officers to be present. As operations were going on in five different places, all the concerned officers were present at one place or the
other,” he said.
