Transport in the city could be majorly affected during the weekend as petrol/diesel pumps and CNG outlets in the city will go on a 24-hour strike beginning midnight of July 2 to protest against the government’s “failure” to prevent the closure of petrol pumps in Mumbai.

Dealers said that due to the new Maharashtra Rent Control Act, a number of pumps are being evicted. “The situation is serious. A day will come when people from south Mumbai will have to travel to central Mumbai to fuel their vehicles,” said Ravi Shinde, president of the Mumbai Petrol Dealers’ Association.

“We have been asking the government to solve the issue for the past many years, but a practical solution does not seem to be in the offing. Hence, it was unanimously decided at our meeting that all petrol/diesel/CNG pumps shall remain shut for two days from 0.01 hrs on July 2 to to 23.59 hrs. on July 3,” Shinde added.
