The Navi Mumbai police recently arrested a Surat-based businessman and his associates for trying to extort money from a Juhu-based businessman.
According to the police, the incident happened in December 2010, when the accused, Penal Mistry, faced huge losses in his business.
With his friend Mohammed Rafiq Sheikh, auto driver Vishal Sawant, and Nalasopara-based businessman Amitabh Nalavade, he decided to extort money from Manish Seth, Sawant’s former boss. They arranged a revolver from Madhya Pradesh.
Sheikh and Sawant went to Seth’s house and fired a bullet and fled. They also demanded Rs50 lakh from him. Last week, based on a tip-off, the Navi Mumbai police managed to nab the four and handed them over them to the Juhu police.
