The NM Joshi Marg police on Friday arrested four people in Central Mumbai for allegedly killing a 65-year-old burglar who broke-in to their godown. The burglar was assaulted with wooden planks and his body was burnt before being dumped in a garbage bin at Elphinstone Road.
“Om Prakash Gupta, 36, his younger brother Shiv Prakash, 32, and their two servants — Dharmendra Singh alias Sonu, 24, and Dhananjay Kallu, 20, were arrested. The Guptas own a shop at NM Joshi Marg and have a godown on Fitwala Road,” said inspector Ashok Dabhade. He added that they were remanded in police custody by the local court.
Dabhade said that Habib Pathan’s half-naked body was found outside a dustbin at Fitwala Road on January 18. He was found with burn marks all over his body and limbs fractured. His body was sent to the Nair Hospital for post-mortem. Pathan was involved in more than 20 cases of burglary.
