According to guidance centre heads, many foreign students are making mistakes while filling up their forms, mostly because of their lack of awareness about the online admission process.

This year, guidance centres across the city have been receiving student applicants from Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and even South Africa. “Despite having the information booklet, they are making mistakes. Besides not reading up about the admission process in newspapers, they may also not be aware of the problems that occurred last year,” said a guidance centre in-charge from south Mumbai.

Phalguni Bhat, whose daughter has studied in Tanzania, South Africa, but wants to return to Mumbai for further education, said, “I am having a hard time understanding the online process.  My daughter has studied from the IGCSE board and I want to know if her marks will be accepted while admission to HSC board junior colleges. I am running pillar to post for help with my daughter’s admission form.”

TA Shiware, principal, KPB Hinduja College at Charni Road, said, “Out of state students have to get transfer certificates and students coming from abroad have to get a recommendation from their respective embassies. Initially, several students who came were clueless about the guidance centres.”

However, an official from the deputy director’s office said that such cases are exceptions. “Most students were guided properly. They are supposed to read the instructions before filling the forms,” added the official.
