The incident happened in the intervening night of February 22 and 23 near the Dharavi creek.
Accused Mohammed Farooque Siddique, who was sent to police custody till March 3 by the holiday court on Saturday, had beheaded the victim and buried his head and torso at two different places in the creek area.
Siddique and Shekhu Sheikh hailed from UP and had been working in a readymade garment factory at Dharavi for the last three years.
Senior inspector Ashok Survegandh said Siddique is a bachelor from Shahunagar in Dharavi, while Sheikh, a married man with two children, lived at Dabba compound in the same area. Sheikh’s family stayed at his native place in Allahabad, Survegandh added.
Siddique reportedly told the police that Sheikh took him to the creek that night on the pretext of showing him girls there. Suddenly, Sheikh started forcing himself upon Siddique, demanding unnatural sex. When Siddique resisted, a quarrel broke out and Sheikh pulled out a steel cutter.
But, Sheikh lost his balance and fell. Taking advantage, Siddique snatched the cutter and stabbed him till he died. Siddique then cut off his head and buried the body and head, said Survegandh.
The incident came to light on Friday when Siddique’s elder brother Majid asked him why he was maintaining a stoic silence for the last three days. Siddique narrated the incident to him, and Majid brought him to the Dharavi police station.
Siddique took the police and fire brigade personnel to the creek.
The officials exhumed the body and head and sent them to Sion hospital for post-mortem, said ACP Prabhakar Satam.
