For the residents of Shree Sadguru Prasad Apartment in Budhwar Peth, last nine years have been a traumatic affair.

The sub-human condition they have been subjected to by the indifference of the developer has compelled them to reside amidst unfinished internal drainage water channel, tangled Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co Ltd (MSEDCL) cable wires and lack of security amenities in the apartment.

The developer Sunil Shinde of SR Construction, on the other hand, blames the residents for the present state of drudgeries that engulfs the apartment.

Shree Sadguru Prasad Apartment consists of 16 shops, 4 offices and 21 families, most of them residing in the building since 2005, while some families got the possession in 2002.

Most residents complain that they haven’t been provided with the completion certificate from the builder in spite of residing in the building for such a long time.

According to the residents and the shop owners, despite paying the one time maintenance cost (Rs1,325,000) to the developer, the building lacks basic amenities.

“There is no proper drainage outlet in the building, which makes it an unhygienic environment to live in,” said resident Chandrakant Kohdalkar, who has been staying in the building since 2005.
When DNA visited the spot, it found drainage water flowing under the MSEDCL meters. “The electricity cables are submerged under the drainage water and pose a very serious security hazard for not just us, but the entire electrical market area in Budhwar Peth,” said Abhijit Dnadekar, who owns his office in the apartment.

Pointing out other problems plaguing the building, resident Sudhir Dhekne said, “We do not have a main gate, which puts a huge question mark on the security. We constantly face a problem of unknown people occupying the terrace and the parking. Despite constant requests, the developer is not ready to take any action.”

When DNA contacted the developer, he washed off his hands from any responsibility and instead blamed the inhabitants of the building. “The residents have to take care of these issues as I have done my best,” Shinde said.

Shinde also denied receiving any maintenance from the residents. However, he assured that the problem of the tangled cables submerged in the drainage water channel would be resolved soon as the MSEDCL officials have been alerted about the issue.
