The Mumbai police (Zone 12) have conducted an awareness programme for senior citizens recently at Goregaon (East) where they were informed about various government schemes available to them. They were also informed about precautionary steps to be taken against fake cops, robbers and chain snatchers.

Around 500 people from the area participated in the programme where officers from the police and revenue departments informed them about the schemes.

Deputy commissioner of police Rajendra Dhabale said, "Next time, we will communicate in both Marathi and Hindi so that all the seniors citizens can understand clearly."

Tahasildar SM Shinde from the Borivli tahsil office addressed the gathering about the various government schemes that can be availed from the local tahsil office. "They can get 50% discount in railways and air tickets," said Dhabale. "Also, we informed them about the Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana and several other state government schemes."

The elderly were informed about the various security measures they must take when someone posing as a police officer tries to rob their ornaments and cash. "Our officers will visit several places where senior citizens meet regularly and in large numbers, such as nana-nani parks, so that they can be made aware of the security measures they need to adopt to stay safe," added Dabhade.
